So I’ve been spending the past few days cleaning my new old apartment. New old, being it’s new to me, but it’s old. As in it’s more than ten years old. More or less ten years worth of other people’s trash that they left behind. Interesting trash at that.
The kitchen cupboards has a juicer, a pasta maker (you know the one where you put your dough through, and it will like roll is flat for you, and cut it into pasta strips), and some other random stuff that I don’t get. And the refrigerator.
You’d be surprised at how disgusting the place where you’re supposed to keep your food can get. What I found in the freezer? Chicken liver! Like the rest of chicken innards, they disgust me. Minute maid. Frozen pulpy orange. And a Ferrero Rocher chocolate. I spend a morning cleaning the fridge. Backing soda is my friend. It can clean up all sorts of miscellaneous muck.
The cable guy is here right now, trying to make sense of all the wires the previous tenants have wired through out all the rooms. It is a mess! What a tangled wed we weave when we start going online, watch cable television, etc. It’s supposed to be a wireless age, but alas, it is an old apartment.
My dad is amazing, he flew here all the way from China to help us throw out our garbage! (he had other businesses to attend to, but great timing).
So, so far, we have got rid of most of the garbage, got DSL, cable and a phone line, moved furnitures around, mopped the floors. So far, so good. It might take a while before we actually finish settling down (we haven’t moved our stuff here yet, for one), but I think we are on the right track. Things on our to do list, include painting some of the rusty metal chairs teal (yes, teal, my sister’s current favorite color) and the peeling TV cabinet purple (my favorite color, obviously).
